After settling into Camping Jungfrau on Monday evening, we quickly discovered the charm of life in the Lauterbrunnen Valley. With towering cliffs and the faint roar of waterfalls surrounding us, it was the perfect base to explore the village.
We started by hopping on the free shuttle bus to the local Co-op supermarket (5 mins away) to stock up on essentials. Switzerland’s reputation for being on the pricier side is well-earned, so a tip for fellow motorhome travelers: stock up on supplies before leaving the UK, or plan a stop in France or Germany en route. That said, the convenience of the shuttle made the quick trip a breeze.

With the fridge restocked, we headed out for dinner at the Horner Pub, a short stroll from the campsite. Nestled in a quintessential Swiss chalet, the pub oozed character and warmth. The menu offered a mix of local flavors, and we couldn’t resist trying some regional specialties. I opted for Raclette—an indulgent, melty cheese dish that I thoroughly enjoyed, though I can see how it might be an acquired taste. We also shared a plate of Alpine Shepherd’s Macaroni, a comforting combination of pasta, potatoes, cheese, and crispy onions. Pairing it all with a glass of Swiss Grimbergen beer was the perfect way to cap off the evening.

The short walk back to the campsite was magical in its own right. Snow had started falling again, and the lights illuminating the cliffs made the snowfall look magical—like a scene from a storybook. Crisp alpine air, a quiet snow-covered path, and an unexpected sight: a small group building an igloo in the dark, their laughter echoing through the valley. Moments like this remind us why we love these trips— little memories at every turn.

Back at the motorhome, we were grateful for the warmth waiting for us—we’d left the heating on, so it was perfectly cozy when we returned.
The river runs through the valley just behind our pitch and the gentle noise is peaceful and relaxing and adds to the outdoors camping feeling (who needs sleep sounds!). With the promise of more adventures to come, we settled in for the night!
Plans are to visit Wengen tomorrow (but plans are made to be broken 😂). Stay tuned as we share more of our journey through Switzerland!
